A Disney Trip Surprise for Our Kids!

We took our kids on a surprise Disney trip! Surprising them added so much magic to our first day.

Right in the middle of getting ready for back-to-school we woke our kids up at 3am. “Get up, we’re going on an adventure!” We expected them to be confused and have a lot of questions. Especially J (15), who always wants to know the plan. Since it was early, they were pretty quiet in the car. But when we drove past the airport sign on the interstate A (12) sat straight up in the back seat, grinning and shaking.

When we got out at the airport we handed them envelopes with a plane ticket to Atlanta. We had sneakily packed suitcases after they were in bed. A was pretty sure he knew we were going to Orlando. J knew that Atlanta was a major hub that could get us anywhere. And K (10) was pretty sure we weren’t going back to Disney until J graduated high school. By the time we handed out the second set of tickets, they had confused themselves to where we might be going.

We landed in Orlando and hopped an Uber. The kids spent the drive guessing where we were staying and what we were doing. They weren’t expecting us to pull up at Riviera, though, and A was even a little upset that we were staying at a “fancy” resort. He changed his tune pretty quickly after eating the “best ever” chicken strips at Prima Piatto. It got even better when we got to meet some of his favorite characters out on the lawn.

We spent the afternoon getting to know our new DVC Home Resort. Then we hopped a bus to EPCOT, and rode the monorail past the EPCOT fireworks. We ended at the Polynesian for a late dinner at O’hana.

We had so much fun with our kids on our surprise Disney trip, and it was a great way to make our DVC Welcome Home stay even more special.
